Mountain House Addition

We were asked to create an addition to a master bedroom that had thermal mass, solar gain and the use of left over steel arches. This space connects the exterior mountain environment with the interior and offers a place to sit, read, drink coffee, watch the sunrise or smoke a late night cigar.
Materials used are Quonset hut steel arch sections, Marvin awning windows for the clerestory light and ventilation, french doors, corrugated steel roofing with sprayed in insulation, low voltage led lighting, bricks for the floor and double glazing. Buried in the hillside behind this space is a 500 gallon cistern for water collection. Colorado red flagstone completes the exterior patio area.
